Lounge Cottage Multi-fuel stove

The MCG Cottage near Charterhouse-on-Mendip provides comfortable accommodation for up to 30 people

  • Comfortable lounge with multi-fuel stove (fuel provided)
  • Electric storage heating
  • Changing room and hot showers
  • Dining area and fully equipped kitchen with ample cooking and facilities (gas cooker, additional gas hobs, fridge, microwave and food storage shelves)
  • Extensive library accessible to MCG members
  • Tackle store accessible to members - well stocked with ladders, ropes, etc.
  • Ample car parking
  • Parking for 8 cars plus further off road parking
  • Gas and electricity included in price
  • Payphone
  • Camping area
  • Hosing down area with rope washer and high pressure hose for cleaning dirty caving suits and other equipment.
  • Members have access to Keys and Caving permits
  • Keys and permits available to guests by prior arrangement
  • 3 bedrooms with comfortable bunks sleeping 30 people (please bring your own sleeping bags/linen)
  • Rooms sleep 6, 8 and 16 people
  • Handbasins in each room
  • All bedrooms have storage heating

Fire alarm

The Cottage is fully protected with a modern fire alarm, installed in 2008 (instruction manual here)

  • GRADE D L2 Fire Alarm. An automatic fire detection system based on interconnected mains powered smoke alarms (with battery back-up) with detectors sited in escape routes (including rooms that open onto escape routes) and in rooms and areas that present high fire risk to occupants. BS5839-6

Cottage upgrade

May 2009 - We have started a program of work at Nordrach Cottage to improve facilities for members and guests. We have now installed a new multi-fuel stove in the lounge to make sure our members and guests keep warm in the winter - pictured above

Attractions

  • Walkers will enjoy the superb local walks and the many conservation areas
  • Other outdoor pursuits include horse riding at Tynings Trekking Centre and skiing at the dry ski slope located in nearby Churchill.

Accommodation would be ideally suited to large groups such as universities, scout groups, walkers, cyclists, etc as a base for outdoor and leisure activities. Within walking distance are Upper Flood Swallet, the Charterhouse caves (GB Cavern, Longwood August Swallet, Manor Farm, Tynings, Rhino Rift), Pinetree Pot, and the caves of Burrington Combe (good for beginners).
