Upper Flood Swallet

Upper Flood: Digging

Following the major breakthrough in Upper Flood Swallet in September 2006 new discoveries have continued to be found. In all, a total of 45 dig sites have been identified (up to 14/03/08). Some of these have resulted in new passages, some have been dead-ends, and others await further exploration.

The table, below, gives a brief description of each dig site. The digs are arranged by the area in which they are located. For each dig, the table shows the name(s) of the original digger(s). The current status of the dig is given followed by a brief description and current state of progress.

5 Walk the Plank Inlet Tim/Richard Open Tight muddy squeeze. Continues larger beyond calcite constriction. Needs hammering 2-3 trips?

6 Netherwood Inlet Tim/Julie/Richard Open Large inlet. Flowstone constriction. Dry weather, needs hammer and chisel.

7 Duck under Boss aven Tim/Richard Closed Pretty grotto leads to chest deep gower. Closes down, no way on.

43 Shake'n'Vac Tim/Richard/Mike/Pete/Bill Going Promising but needs loose material cleaning out.

Threadneedle Street





8 Wall Street Tim/Richard Suspended Fist sized draughting hole at end. Long term, dig will damage pom poms and gours.

9 End of Threadneedle Street Tim/Richard Suspended Voids through rocks up/left flowstone at end. Needs hammering

11 Tim's tube, lower Charnel Tim/Peat Going Needs surveying, linked to Halogen Loft.

12 Above rope climb Tim/Richard/Doug Open Dead? One trip needed in dry weather to widen and check. Rescue trowel in mud on right hand side.

West Passage





13 Chuckle Choke All Open Needs attention. Hammering might do it.

14 West End Passage (95% crawl) All Open Needs attention / hammering. Squeeze between in floor looks like a void in boulders.

15 Chuckle Sump All Open Dry weather. Bail and enlarge U-tube. Several trips.

16 Aven/Chamber off West Passage All Open Has hammering connection with Neverland. Needs resurveying.
Royal Icing Passage





17 High rift behind cubic boulder Tim Open Void in base of calcited choke. Needs a proper look. Top and behind choke doesn't go.

18 Roof of #14 rift Tim/Richard Open Technical climb

19 Curtain climb Tim/Richard Closed On left before the Up and Over. Definitely too tight

26 Neverland Sump Sonya Open Still going. Needs a return dive.

27 High rift, left hand side Tim/Richard/Ben Open High climb. Where Ben left that little loop of survey tape on a rock.
East Passage





2 Zebra Aven All Closed High dripping aven. Climbed by Joel Corrigan.

29 Traverse Aven Tim/Bill Closed Behind blocks, right hand wall. Ends in pretty grotto and tubes (diggable-ish). Needs surveying

30 Upstream from Sump Peat/Tim/Richard Open Possible dig. Bad Air.

31 East Passage Sump Sonya Closed A blind pool.

42 Zebra Aven Mike/Jenny(BDCC)/Tim/Bill Open Tube, partially mud filled, ends at mud blockage. Needs surveying
