Take your first step into an amazing underground world with the Mendip Caving Group.
Your First Trip Underground
Our taster sessions are the perfect introduction to caving. We aim to take you on a trip that is fun, challenging, but well within your capabilities. A typical trip will last about 2–3 hours underground and you will be led by at least two experienced club members.
What to Expect
On the day, you’ll meet one of our members who will get you kitted up and explain what the trip will involve. You can expect to be walking, stooping, crawling, and perhaps climbing. It’s a fantastic experience and a great way to see if caving is for you!
*Please note that we don’t take stag groups or one-off “thrill seekers”. Cave and Climb or Wild Wookey offer amazing one-off experiences.
What it Costs
We provide all the specialist safety equipment for your first few trips. We just ask for a kit hire deposit of £15 to cover wear and tear.
If you become a member after your taster, the £15 will be discounted from your membership fee — effectively making your first trip free!
What to Bring
We provide the essential safety gear. All you need to bring are some personal items to keep you warm and for afterwards.
